THE BLUEBIRD PROJECT

The Enfield Garden Club was awarded a mini-grant in 2021 by the Hartford Audubon Society. One of the goals of the Garden Club is to aid in the protection of the environment. With the money provided by the mini-grant, the Enfield Garden Club was able to purchase materials necessary for the installation of six Bluebird nesting boxes in different areas of Enfield, Connecticut. Bluebird boxes are located at:

  • Easy Pickin's Orchard
  • The Enfield Central Library
  • Smyth's Trinity Dairy Farm
  • The Martha A. Parson's House
  • The Stowe Early Learning Center
  • Garden's Dream Farm
The project was led by club president, Nancy Wyzga. Recent development and increasing invasive species have interfered with the natural nesting sites of the native Bluebirds. The nesting boxes are monitored and maintained by Enfield Garden Club members with the hope of increasing our native Bluebird population.

2022 Update

We're happy to announce that the Enfield Garden Club applied for additional funding through the Hartford Audubon Society and was awarded another $200 to purchase additional bluebird houses. As we have learned, the bluebirds will be more attracted to settling in the new homes if there are more than one in an area.
