The goal of the little libraries is to inspire gardeners of all ages, encourage sustainability, and keep knowledge growing in Enfield - accessible 24/7, year-round.
Currently, the Enfield Garden Club has five little libraries around town. But the project started back in 2022 when April and Bob built the first little library at the Enfield Senior Center. Then, in 2023, the Enfield Garden Club received a $2,500 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant to add four more little libraries around Enfield.
Working with the Community Garden Coordinator and town staff, we selected sites, purchased eco-friendly library kits from Little Free Library, received used books from the Enfield Friends of the Library, visited various library book sales, and purchased books from Better World Books. Not to mention many book donations from members! We stocked the libraries with gardening, environmental, nature books and even some fiction with a related theme—ranging from beginner guides to advanced resources.
If you have any books you'd like to donate about the natural world feel free to pop into on of our member meetings and drop them off!

Donate books at our member meetings.
Monitor the libraries. As you are driving around town, take a peak to see if they need to be filled.
Consider “adopting” one of the libraries nearby.
At one of the Members Meeting, you can fill up a bag of books to have on hand to replenish the library as needed.
Being part of the project is fairly low effort and high reward! Libraries are checked every couple of weeks and filled as needed. It doesn’t take much time, but you are really making a difference, especially for kids who need books!
